Feathered, Furry, or Finned

We care for them all.

Welcome to Crockett's Critter Care in New Bern, NC — where pets are cared for in the comfort of their own homes.

For more than 15 years, we’ve been a trusted choice for pet owners in New Bern, offering reliable pet sitting, dog walking, and, since 2020, Fear Free Animal Training with a specialty in helping reactive dogs.

Meet Jeanne Crockett

I’ve spent my life working with animals — from beloved family pets like Penny, my Cocker Spaniel, to Clark Kent, a retired racehorse, and even a flotilla of goldfish. My passion has carried me through obedience and rally trials, agility fun, exercising polo ponies, leading trail rides, foxhunting (no foxes harmed), working for a veterinarian, and ultimately founding Crockett’s Critter Care in 2011.

But my story begins long before this business. For years I was immersed in animal rescue, fostering countless pets, serving on the board of Colonial Capital Humane Society, working with Fran’s Felines and Pals for Paws, and writing the CCHS newsletter for six years. I included fund raising in the annual Christmas Newsletter, which became one of the group’s most successful fundraisers, and I helped lead efforts to end the gas chamber in our county’s shelter. I implemented adoptathons in the Mall and in the Farmer's Market buidling resulting in many successful adoptions. I also organized training for future animal control officers, awarding certificates to more than 25 participants. That time in rescue shaped my approach to animals — one rooted in compassion, advocacy, and respect.

When I turned my passion into a profession, my goal was clear: to build a premier pet care service that is professional, ethical, and compassionate. Crockett’s Critter Care has grown into a trusted team, bonded and insured, trained in Fear Free handling, and committed to the same high standards I set from day one.

Professional Excellence

I believe pets deserve the very best, which is why I’ve pursued ongoing education and industry credentials, including:
Certified Professional Pet Sitter (PSI)
Fear Free Elite Professional & Fear Free Animal Trainer
Canine Reactivity Specialist
ACE Free Work Trainer
Pet First Aid & CPR

I also require all of my staff to train through Pet Sitters International's PETSIT Pro training couse and to maintain Pet First Aid & CPR certification, ensuring consistent and compassionate care across every visit.

My commitment to professionalism has been recognized widely. I was honored as Pet Sitter of the Year (2020) by Pet Sitters International and have contributed articles to Pet Sitter’s World Magazine, sharing my expertise with an international audience of fellow professionals.

A Lifelong Learner & Entrepreneur
Beyond animal care, I’ve invested in building my business with the same dedication. I completed the NC Real Entrepreneurship Certificate through Craven Community College, actively participate in the Coastal Women’s Forum and, and attend business roundtables and workshops regularly.
Most recently, I was selected through a statewide search to join the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program (2025 Cohort), an opportunity to grow Crockett’s Critter Care and expand our reach while staying true to our mission.

Our Mission
At Crockett’s Critter Care, our mission is simple: to provide professional pet care that matches — or exceeds — what pet owners provide themselves. Using Fear Free methods, we strive to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress, so pets feel safe, understood, and happy.
Whether we’re caring for a frisky kitten, a shy rescue, or a reactive dog, our promise is the same: integrity with clients, intelligence and affection with pets, and positive energy in every interaction.

"Professional, diligent, and most importantly, loving"

Jeanne and her crew of critter caretakers make leaving my pet behind much easier. They give me peace of mind knowing my furry friend is in good hands with the photos and updates I get during my time away. They are professional, diligent, and most importantly, loving toward my pet as if it was their own. Overall, some of the best pet care I have received.

"Pet Whisperer"

We call Jeanne the “pet whisperer”. I don’t know how she does it (could it be the hot dogs??) but our dogs love her! She truly knows what our dogs are thinking and what they need and they actually listen to her! Jeanne is extremely reliable and trustworthy. I wish she would expand her business to include teenagers. 🙂

We Love Animals

I have volunteered with local rescue groups and have taken a few rescues into my home temporarily until they moved into my heart permanently. As my awareness grew, I advocated for better animal welfare laws and more humane animal treatment. After a lifetime in the corporate world, I decided it was time for me to put my passion to work and created Crockett’s Critter Care.

This is a calling I take very seriously. I strive to be your trusted partner in pet care. Your pet has a special place in your heart and your life. My duty is to care for them the way you would if you could. I’ve taken my passion and earned the designations to ensure your confidence. I actively pursue continued education in pet sitting, dog walking, Fear Free training, and dog training with a special emphasis in reactive dogs.

Every reactive dog trainer I have met tells the same story – we have a reactive dog! We know the right training is the solution to building an unbreakable bond with your companion. What Davy and I experienced in our training was a game changer. I was so excited by our results that I pursued the necessary credentials to become a Canine Reactivity Specialist to share this program with you.

Yes. I am a Fear Free Certified Animal Trainer – specializing in reactive dog training.

They have a special place in my heart. I have cared for my own pets in their senior years with the ailments that come with age. And I have helped many clients care for their elderly pets. These devoted friends deserve a gentle touch in their later years and my team and I can provide that.
